OREM, Utah-Former Utah Valley University men’s basketball standout Travis Hansen, per a Friday announcement, will grant the opportunity to one male and one female freshman student at UVU to have $5,000.
This occurs Monday at 5:45 p.m. during the Utah Valley University Freshman Convocation and is called the Freshmen $5,000, sponsored by Hansen and the Tesani Company.
If the contestants, who will be selected from among freshmen UVU students who are in their seats for the convocation, can make a half court shot, the $5,000 is theirs.
This contest continues during the 2018-19 Wolverines’ men’s basketball season as one fan will have the opportunity to win the $5,000 if a half-court shot can be hit during each home men’s basketball game at UVU.
Hansen, who starred for the Wolverines from 1996-1997 and later played for the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA as well as overseas in Europe, played a crucial role in the construction of the NUVI Basketball Center on campus.
The weight room inside the center is named in his honor.
