Dixie State Men’s Golf Prepares for Super Regional; 5 Get Honors

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Monday, Dixie State men’s golf will commence in its NCAA super regional competition at Amarillo, Texas, but before the Trail Blazers ensue in continuing their title hopes, several players on the squad received recognition from the Pac West Conference.

Thursday, five Trail Blazer men’s golfers were named to the All Pac-West team. These include junior Nicklaus Britt of Fillmore, who was named as the Pac-West’s player of the year and earned first team all-Pac West honors.

Additionally, senior Dalton Stanger of Orem and sophomore Jayce Frampton of Centerville were named to the second team.

Furthermore, freshman Spencer Wallace of Layton was named as the Pac West’s Freshman of the year, earning All-Pac West third-team honors. Dixie State head coach Brad Sutterfield was voted the Pac West’s coach of the year as well, earning this distinction for the second time in his six seasons at the helm.

Britt won two tournaments in April, including medalist honors at the Pac West championships, as well as the Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate at Silver City, N.M., which saw him tie a Dixie State program record shooting a final round 9-under 63.

Britt was a two-time Pac-West Player of the Week honoree and leads the Trail Blazers with a 72.15 scoring average in 20 competitive rounds with a team-high 11 rounds of par or better.

Sutterfield was honored for ensuing in his dynastic run as coach as during the Pac-West tournament, he led the Trail Blazers to their third league title in the past four seasons and ensured the Trail Blazers qualified for the super regionals for the 10th consecutive season.

Britt, Wallace, Frampton, Stanger and freshman Landon Anderson of Kaysville, are the five Trail Blazers who will compete Monday at Amarillo, Texas.

Dixie State comes into this regional as the third overall seed behind top seed Chico State and the second seed, Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Trail Blazers are also one of four teams representing the Pac-West at this regional, including Cal Baptist, who makes its last appearance in this regional, as the Lancers are moving to Division I in time for the fall sports season, Dominican U. and Holy Names.

Despite the Trail Blazers’ success, they have never made it past the super regional round in program history, although former DSU golfer Kyle Chappell qualified, finishing 19th overall at the NCAA Division II championships in 2012.
