Dixie State Football Hands New Mexico Highlands Their First Loss of Season

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Easton Smith completed 13 of 25 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown as the Dixie State Trailblazers improved to 2-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a 28-23 win over New Mexico Highlands Saturday at Trailblazer Stadium.

The Trailblazers limited the high-flying Cowboys, who came in averaging 55 points per game, to 23 points and 393 yards of offense.

Star Dixie State tailback Sei-J Lauago ran for 168 yards and a score on 27 carries, averaging 6.2 yards per rush for the Trailblazers and receiver Dejuan Dantzler hauled in four receptions for 83 yards in the win, averaging 20.8 yards per grab.

In defeat, the Cowboys were paced by tailback Dione Alston, who posted 160 yards on 18 carries. The loss dropped New Mexico Highlands to 2-1 on the sesason, while Dixie State improved to 2-1.

The Trailblazers ensue in their three-game homestand September 22 as they host South Dakota Mines.
