ST. GEORGE, Utah-Sei-J Lauago ran for 185 yards and a score on 23 carries and the Dixie State Trailblazers (7-2, 6-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play) outgunned Colorado Mesa 42-32 Saturday at Trailblazers Stadium.
The opportunistic Trailblazers overcame a 21-7 deficit to win for the sixth time in their last seven games and stay alive for the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Signal-caller Keaton Mott also was successfull for Dixie State, completing 17 of 28 passes for 248 yards, four touchdowns and interception for the Trailblazers.
The Trailblazers’ best receivers were Jalen Powell (8 rec, 127 yards, 2 TD’s) and Kasey Allison ( 5 rec, 93 yards, TD) as Dixie State amassed 591 yards of offense on the afternoon, including 323 rushing yards on 7.5 yards per pop.
Defensively, Kaejin Smith-Bejgrowicz had an interception and Will Yamasaki and Alex Lilliard each had forced fumbles for the Trailblazers. Additionally, Darrius Nash, Kyle Murray and Brennin Miller each had a sack apeice for Dixie State. Mitch Jacobs and Dylan Hendrickson also had half a sack in the win for the Trailblazers.
In defeat, the Mavericks (4-5, 4-4 in RMAC play) were led by signal-caller Hayden Bollinger (12-29, 104 yards, TD/INT; 2 rush TD’s), tailback Isaac Maestas (23 car, 112 yards) and receiver Bradley Toussaint (4 rec, 51 yards, TD).
Defensively, Reed Rowan (2 sacks) and Devante Loggins (interception) led the Mavericks in defeat.
Dixie State returns to action Saturday November 9 at Golden, Colo. against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers for a 12:00 pm kickoff.
