CHICAGO (AP)-Patrick Mahomes completed 23 of 33 passes for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Kansas City Chiefs routed the Chicago Bears 26-3 Sunday evening at Soldier Field.
The 11-4 Chiefs kept their hopes of earning a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs alive as if Kansas City and AFC East champion New England finish 12-4, the Chiefs would be the No. 2 seed by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Mahomes threw touchdown passes to Travis Kelce (8 rec, 74 yards, TD) and Damien Williams (19 touches, 92 scrimmage yards; rec TD) as the Chiefs methodically overpowered a beleaguered Chicago squad that fell to 7-8.
Chris Jones, Frank Clark and Reggie Ragland all had sacks for Kansas City as well to pace the Chiefs’ defense.
Harrison Butker nailed field goals of 56 and 32 yards as well to complement the Kansas City attack.
In defeat, Mitchell Trubisky struggled for Chicago, completing 18 of 34 passes for 157 yards. Allen Robinson (6 rec, 53 yards) was his leading receiver. Khalil Mack had a sack for the Bears to pace the defense.
The Chiefs will host the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday to conclude the regular season while the Bears, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, visit Minnesota to play out the string.
