PROVO, Utah-Monday, BYU center James Empey was named to the 2018 Football Writers Association of America freshman All-American team.
The panel voting on Empey’s inclusion consists of nationally-prominent college football experts representing each of the FBS football conferences as well as independent schools.
Both true and redshirt freshmen were considered for inclusion on the squad.
Empey, a native of American Fork and product of American Fork High School, started all 13 games in 2018 and was ranked as the #1 freshman center in the country by Pro Football Focus.
Empey is the 16th freshman All-American in program history.
