PROVO, Utah-Wednesday, BYU men’s basketball confirmed the signing of Timpview High School 6-8 guard-forward Jake Wahlin.

Wahlin, who is currently a senior for the Thunderbirds, is originally from Keller, Texas and averaged 13.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2 assists per game last season for Timpview.

His contributions helped the Thunderbirds to a second-place finish at last season’s 5-A UHSAA state basketball tournament.

Cumulatively during his high school career, Wahlin has averaged 9.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest.

Wahlin is the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Utah by PrepHoops and is the Beehive State’s third-best product per 247Sports.

Wahlin selected the Cougars over Arizona State, San Diego State, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah State among others.

Wahlin comes from a rich intercollegiate athletics pedigree. His sister, Mallery, starred as a setter on the BYU women’s volleyball team in 2014. Furthermore, his grandfather, Marvin, was a star halfback at Arizona State in the early 1950’s.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wahlin plans to serve a mission for the Salt Lake City-based faith before enrolling.

He hopes to leave next summer and play for the Cougars commencing with the 2023-24 season.
