PROVO, Utah-Brandon Averette netted a career-high 30 points as BYU men’s basketball downed Texas Southern 87-71 Monday evening at the Marriott Center.
Averette shot 10 of 19 from the field and made six 3-pointers to help the Cougars improve to 8-2 on the season.
Matt Haarms added 16 points and 4 rebounds for the Cougars, who are next in action Wednesday against Weber State at Vivint Smart Home Arena in downtown Salt Lake City.
Michael Weathers posted 23 points on 8-12 from the field and 7-7 at the foul line for the Tigers, who fell to 2-5 with the loss.
