PROVO, Utah-Tuesday, as BYU football hosted its ninth annual media day at the BYU Broadcasting Center, numerous key players and coaches on the squad shared their thoughts.
Head coach Kalani Sitake stated he can hardly wait for the Utah football game (August 29), confirming he wishes it were here already.
When asked about the 2019 schedule, junior defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga said he was “super excited” to play against schools such as Tennessee, Washington, Toledo and USC.
Rising star quarterback, sophomore Zach Wilson, when asked about his shoulder recovery, said “It’s been on track and I’m expected to be 100 percent soon.”
Wilson also plans to “take it to another level” in 2019 as he gets to enjoy the stability of the same offensive system and coaches as last season.
Offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes lauded his receivers, saying that he felt the receivers “had probably the best performance during the spring.”
Furthermore, Grimes said the offensive line has “a position battle at every spot.” Therefore, this is something to look for as the Cougars get into fall camp in July.
On the defensive side of the ball, Sitake praised Tonga, saying “he’s explosive, strong and powerful.”
Senior linebacker Zayne Anderson called it “a surreal feeling being back” when asked about how he felt returning for his senior season after injury.
When asked about his thoughts on the defense, senior defensive back Austin Lee shared his excitement, saying “there are some good guys on the defensive side of the ball.”
