PROVO, Utah-In a definitive statement released Thursday afternoon, Brigham Young University has indefinitely suspended all athletic events because of the rapidly-evolving circumstances amid the spread of COVID-19.
NCAA President Mark Emmert and the NCAA Board of Governors announced the suspension of all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships, including the wildly popular Division I men’s basketball tournament.
BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe confirmed he and his staff have worked closely with BYU administration and affiliated conferences concerning the health and well-being of student-athletes.
Holmoe concluded by saying the athletic department’s focus, moving forward, is to “safeguard student-athletes and assist them in managing this unique challenge in their lives.”
