Bees Start Season With Win At Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-Jose Briceno belted a grand slam and posted 5 RBI as the Salt Lake Bees routed the Albuquerque Isotopes 11-4 Thursday at Isotopes Park before a crowd of 6,187 in the season opener for both squads.

Salt Lake built a 3-0 lead in the 2nd Inning as Luis Rengifo, Taylor Ward and Matt Thiass each had key RBI for the Bees in that stretch.

Jared Walsh added an insurance solo home run for the Bees in the top of the 9th Inning as Salt Lake got the season started on the right foot.

Josh Fuentes and Roberto Ramos each homered in the loss for the Isotopes.

Jaime Barria earned the win on the mound for the Bees. The Panamanian national surrendered five hits and four runs in 5.1 innings of work while posting eight strikeouts.

These teams are again in action Friday at 6:35 pm for the opening pitch at Albuquerque.
