PROVO, Utah-Monday, BYU junior guard Alex Barcello, a transfer from the University of Arizona, received a waiver from the NCAA.
This makes him immediately eligible to play for the Cougars this season.
Barcello, a native of Chandler, Ariz., played the first two seasons of his collegiate career for the Wildcats.
While in Tucson, Ariz., he appeared in 51 games averaging 2.9 points per game while totaling 48 rebounds, 35 assists and 13 steals.
Prior to his time with the Wildcats, Barcello starred at Corona del Sol High School of Tempe, Ariz. and was the No. 2 recruit coming out of Arizona.
During his senior season, the two-time Arizona Gatorade Player of the year netted 24.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting just under 55 percent from the field for the Aztecs.
Barcello concluded his high school career with 2,254 points.
