Wasatch County Suffers Third Death Attributed To COVID-19 Friday

SALT LAKE CITY-Friday, Wasatch County suffered its third death attributed to COVID-19.

The Wasatch County Health Department confirms this was an older man between the ages of 60 and 85. He had been hospitalized for about a month and had underlying health conditions. Health department personnel also told Heber Valley Radio that age likely played a factor in his death.

This death contributed to Utah’s death total increasing to 155 deaths attributed to COVID-19 since statistics began being kept. The other Wasatch County COVID-19 deaths occurred April 10 and May 31. Nevertheless, Utah continues to lead the nation in death rates from COVID-19 as only 0.00943 percent of COVID-19 cases have resulted in death in the Beehive State.

Friday, Utah experienced a record amount of cases in a 24-hour period as the 586 new cases moved the total amount of cases of COVID-19 to 16,425 since statistics began being kept. This also represents a net increase of 91 cases in the past 24 hours.

However, Utah also experienced 327 recovered cases in the past 24 hours. This resulted in there now being 9,113 recovered cases from COVID-19 in the Beehive State. This is also a net increase of 93 recoveries in the past hour. This also slightly rose the recovery percentage in Utah to 55.48 percent.

There are now 7,157 active cases in Utah from COVID-19. This is an increase of 256 in the past 24 hours but a decrease of two from the previous day’s totals. This represents the second consecutive day that net active cases have dropped from the previous day.

There have been 287,538 total tests for COVID-19 in the Beehive State as of Friday’s totals. This is an increase of 4,853 tests in the past 24 hours.

This increased the overall positive test percentage to 5.71 percent. However, in the past 24 hours, despite the record number of new cases, the 24-hour positive test percentage dropped from 12.3 percent to 12.07 percent in the same span.
