SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A warrant has been issued for a Florida man after he missed a Utah court appearance for assault charges filed against him by prosecutors who accuse him of hitting a man in Salt Lake City after asking the victim if he was gay.
Online Utah state court records show that a $2,500 warrant was issued Friday for 23-year-old Carlo Alazo of Tampa, Florida. He called the court Thursday to request a hearing delay since he’s in Florida, but online records say the court had not received his formal request by mail.
Alazo doesn’t have an attorney listed in court records or a listed phone number.
He has not entered pleas to the assault and use of dangerous weapons charge.
The incident was captured on a video that gained attention online.
