(Logan, UT) — A bomb scare at Utah State University was apparently caused by a misplaced backpack. An emergency alert was issued Tuesday afternoon and the Old Main Building was evacuated due to a report of a suspicious package, which was detonated. It was later determined an employee had left the bag for a student, and it contained a wildlife telemetry collar used for field research. Officials say the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squad usually detonates objects with GPS signals or cell antennas out of an abundance of caution.
