This photo shows the Utah State Capitol, Thursday, March 14, 2013, in Salt Lake City. Utah lawmakers are entering the final day of what has been a relatively quiet 45-day legislative session. By constitutional rule the Legislature must end its session Thursday, which often means the stroke of midnight. Lawmakers are wrapping up negotiations on a number of bills, including proposals to change the state's liquor and gun laws, and putting the finishing touches on a roughly $13 billion state budget. Utah School Board Member Natalie Cline Meets With Republican Lawmakers

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah State School Board member Natalie Cline is doing damage control. Media reports say she met privately with state House Republicans on Tuesday. The GOP-controlled legislature is trying to come up with a response to the social media-generated controversy created by Cline. The board member in a since deleted post falsely claimed a female high-school athlete was transgender. Community and state leaders have generally denounced Cline’s action. Lawmakers were nearly 30 minutes late returning to the floor Tuesday afternoon because of the meeting.
