By constitutional rule the Legislature must end its session Thursday, which often means the stroke of midnight. Lawmakers are wrapping up negotiations on a number of bills, including proposals to change the state's liquor and gun laws, and putting the finishing touches on a roughly $13 billion state budget. Utah Lawmakers Revive Ritualistic Sex Abuse Legislation

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah lawmakers will take another run at a proposed law to crack down on ritualistic sexual abuse. The legislature’s Interim Judiciary Committee heard testimony about the plans yesterday. State Rep. Ken Ivory tried to move the proposal earlier this year, but failed to get much support. Lawmakers yesterday said they feel sorry for the victims in these cases, but don’t know how they can make kidnapping and sexual assault even more illegal than it already is.
