SALT LAKE CITY-Clearfield Republican Paul Ray has stated government must confess its overreaction to COVID-19 and completely open Utah up.
Furthermore, in Tuesday remarks, Ray said he is drafting legislation to prohibit local health departments from unilaterally quarantining healthy people and closing down the economy.
Utah businesses commenced reopening Monday as Gov. Gary Herbert moved the Beehive State to “moderate risk” (orange) from “high risk” (red).
Ray is a COVID-19 community task force member who opposed the closure of businesses and schools.
He proposed that Utah automatically be moved to “green” status while people, under said scenario, would be able to make their own decisions concerning what they do.
As he expressed this in a Facebook post, he drew criticism from left-leaning public advocacy group Alliance For a Better Utah.
Ray says this lock-down is killing businesses as he cited information from the Utah Restaurant Association which proclaims that 25 percent of Utah restaurants will never open again.
