Utah Joins Lawsuit to Block Sale of 23andMe Genetic Data

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Attorney General Derek Brown has joined 26 other states in a lawsuit aimed at stopping 23andMe from selling its genetic data. This comes following the company’s bankruptcy earlier this year. The lawsuit highlights concerns over the genetic information of about 15 million people collected by 23andMe. The company filed for bankruptcy in March, and its CEO resigned as the company went up for sale. The Utah Attorney General’s Office advised residents to delete their 23andMe data and reminded them of their rights under state privacy laws.
