Utah GOP Submits Maloy As Special Election Nominee Despite Questions

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Republican Party says Celeste Maloy will be its nominee for the upcoming special congressional election despite ongoing questions about her eligibility. Utah G-O-P chair Robert Axson submitted Maloy’s name to state election officials yesterday. Maloy’s candidacy was questioned because she was not registered as a Republican in Utah and did not vote in two consecutive general elections. Maloy has updated her registration and state Republican officials have confirmed that she meets all the legal requirements to be a candidate. She’s running to replace Second District Congressman Chris Stewart, who plans to step down in September.
