(Salt Lake City, UT) — State health officials are hoping new guidelines by the CDC will help get more children vaccinated for a virus that causes cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reduced the number of shots needed for the HPV treatment from three to two. The Huntsman Cancer Institute says Utah has one of the lowest HPV vaccination rates in the U.S. Some doctors refuse to recommend the HPV shot to parents because they feel it leads to more sexual activity in children.
