Utah Being Sued Over Banned Books

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah faces a lawsuit over its book bans in public schools. The ACLU of Utah said the suit was filed by the estate of author Kurt Vonnegut along with other writers, alleging the state violated First Amendment protections by removing certain titles. Officials announced three additional books were banned, bringing the statewide total to 22. The newly banned titles were “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” “Nineteen Minutes” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” The State Board of Education told ABC Four it was aware of the lawsuit and was reviewing the matter.
