SALT LAKE CITY-Thursday, the Utah Division of Unemployment Insurance reported 4,847 new claims for benefits were submitted for the week of June 7-13. This is down nearly 12 percent from 5,452 claims the previous week.
The state paid out $24.9 million in traditional unemployment benefits along with $47.1 million in federally-funded $600 weekly stimulus payments.
This also includes $1.2 million in federal extended benefit payments, totaling $73.2 million in jobless subsidies for the week-long period.
For this week, the industries with the highest percentage of claims were office and administrative support (13.7 percent), production occupations (8.9 percent) and management occupations (8.6 percent).
The counties with the highest number of people filing jobless compensation claims were Salt Lake County (40 percent), Utah County (14.5 percent), Davis County (7.3 percent), Weber County (7 percent) and Washington County (3.7 percent).
