Texts Show GOP Lawmakers Objected To Pride-Themed UTA Bus

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Transit Authority is defending its decision to pull a rainbow-wrapped bus from a weekend Pride parade. The UTA issued a statement yesterday saying the decision to pull the bus from the Utah Pride Parade was not meant to offend the diverse communities it serves. The statement came on the same day that texts from several state lawmakers who opposed the Pride-themed bus were released. House Majority Leader Mike Shultz pushed the UTA to reverse its decision to use the bus in texts sent last week, saying it was causing him “drama” in his caucus. Schultz also texted that some Republicans wanted the UTA to issue a formal public apology for promoting the Pride-themed vehicle.
