Sanpete County Search and Rescue used their newly acquired SnowCat as they responded to two calls over the weekend involving snowmobilers. The first call came Saturday evening from a woman concerned about her husband and his friend who were long overdue after snowmobiling above Indianola. When she went to find them, she became stranded in her vehicle when it became stuck in the snow. Search and Rescue was able to free her and locate her husband and friend, who were safe.
The second call came Sunday afternoon from snowmobilers in Potter’s Canyon. Sanpete County Emergency Manager Jayson Albee received the call of an accident in a very remote location when one of the snowmobiles impacted a rock and overturned on the rider. Albee was able to use a map of the area to ascertain the most likely area the snowmobilers were in. He gave the coordinates to AirMed, who dispatched a helicopter, and the victim was transported out of the area. Search and Rescue used the SnowCat to find the other snowmobilers and make sure they returned home safely.
Albee praised the new SnowCat and said it made a big difference in Search and Rescue’s ability to quickly and safely respond to emergency calls.
