DUCHESNE COUNTY Utah-Saturday, Wasatch County Search & Rescue reported the death of missing fly fisherman, 34-year-old Robert “Austin” Harker.
Harker, of Millcreek, had his body recovered Saturday from the Lake Canyon area of Duchesne County.
The Wasatch County Sheriff’s SAR team began searching for Harker Friday morning after he did not return home Thursday as he planned to, per a report from his wife which occurred Thursday at 11:00 am.
The SAR squad was assisted by the Utah Department of Public Safety and Utah National Guard helicopter crews.
Late Friday, a community citizen provided information which led to the location of Harker’s truck in the Lake Canyon Area. Harker was not in the truck.
Crews from Wasatch and Duchesne Counties resumed the search early Saturday morning with assistance from DPS and National Guard helicopter crews. Great Basin K-9 Search and Rescue also assisted in the ultimately fruitless expedition.
Harker’s body was found at 11:15 am by SAR members flying over the area in the National Guard helicopter.
Detectives found no evidence of foul play in the death.
The Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
Duchesne County Sheriff Travis Tucker confirmed he sends out his condolences to the Harker and Cowart families at this tragic time.
