ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Unseasonably cold weather in northern Nevada broke a record in Eureka County and could push overnight lows below zero for the first time this season in some areas early Tuesday.
The National Weather Service says the low of 7 degrees (-14 Celsius) at the Eureka Airport Monday broke the old record of 15 (-9C) set in 2011.
The mercury dropped as low as 9 degrees (-12C) at Jarbidge near the Idaho line, 12 at Jackpot (-11C) and 15 at Ely (-9C).
The service says a low of minus 8 degrees (-22C) is forecast for Ely on Tuesday, minus 2 (-18C) at McDermitt and zero (-17C) at Elko.
