DETROIT-President Russell M. Nelson, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, will address the 110th annual national convention for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Sunday at Detroit.
In a press release issued by the Salt Lake City-based faith’s First Presidency, the hierarchy of the Church has made its partnership with the NCAA “a high priority.”
This release also contained the information confirming President Nelson will participate in this convention.
Church and NAACP leaders have met several times in pursuit of a joint education/employment initiative that has been deployed in such places as Chicago, San Francisco, Houston and Charlotte, N.C.
The Church has had several positive experiences with the NAACP in the past, including a meeting at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City last May.
The purpose of this gathering was to customize self-reliance services materials and the most effective programs for this initiative.
