Police: Salt Lake City Man Sexually Assaulted Lesbian

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake City Police Department has launched an investigation Thursday into a possible hate crime after a man was arrested on multiple sexual misconduct charges.

Adam Quinn Atwood, 34, was accused of sexually assaulting a lesbian, who said he told her he would “fix the gay,” the Deseret News reported.

Atwood was arrested Wednesday for investigation of object rape, forcible sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and forcible sexual abuse.

The woman told authorities she went to visit a friend and her husband, Atwood, in Salt Lake City on Sunday. She said the friend fell asleep at some point and she continued talking with Atwood.

“(The woman) stated the suspect began touching and grabbing her,” a police affidavit said.

Atwood then sexually assaulted the woman and asked if she was sure she was gay, despite the woman telling him to stop, police said.

The woman attempted to leave, but was forcibly taken to the basement where he continued the assault before she was able to escape to her car, authorities said.

“The victim submitted to a sexual assault examination which documented several injuries that are consistent with the victim statements,” the affidavit said.

Atwood told police during his arrest that he did not rape anyone. No attorney was immediately listed for Atwood in court records.
