The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a student at South Sevier High School after fellow students saw something suspicious on his phone.
The student reportedly had been looking at homemade bomb instructions. Fellow students saw the search and reported it to the principal.
Sevier County Sheriff, Nate Curtis says the student was not arrested, but they will continue to investigate.
“When parents or students hear something or see something that causes alarm or concern, and they call us, we absolutely appreciate it,” Curtis says. “That’s what makes the difference–when people are willing to say, ‘hey there’s something that this person’s doing.’ And they make a big difference.”
Curtis also reports that the student had been looking it up, but didn’t have the means to do it.
Now that they’re aware of this student, they’re working to get him some help.
“What we’re trying to do is make sure that we get him in with some councilors and find out what the root source of the problem is,” Curtis says. “And find ways to make sure that the student knows that not only are we paying attention to him, we’re trying to help him deal with whatever is causing these issues.”
Officials don’t believe any students are in any danger following this incident. Curtis says it’s a good thing that people are sensitive to what’s going on in schools right now.
