COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) — Authorities said one person was killed and five others critically injured when a car went off a road and struck a pickup parked in a Utah canyon and went over an embankment and overturned.
The Unified Police Department says the person killed early Saturday morning was one of two people sleeping in the bed of the pickup in a parking lot near a trailhead in Big Cottonwood Canyon in a rural area of Salt Lake County.
Police Detective Kevin Mallory said the other person in the truck and the four people in the car were injured.
Mallory said there was no immediate indication the car’s driver was impaired.
No identities were released.
