Responsibility and ownership for the Kirtland Temple, several historic buildings in Nauvoo and various manuscripts and artifacts have officially been transferred to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In a press release on Mar. 5, President of the LDS Church Russell M. Nelson shared, “we thank our friends at Community of Christ for their great care and cooperation in preserving these historical treasures thus far. We are committed to doing the same.” The Kirtland Temple, the Smith Family Homestead, the Mansion House and the Red Brick Store will reopen March 25, 2024, for public tours at no charge. In the release it was shared that “more details about the transaction, assets and the other items included in the agreement will be forthcoming.”
