TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-The Utah Department of Transportation is asking drivers to plan ahead this weekend as portions of Bangerter Highway and Interstate 15 will be closed overnight on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
These closures will allow UDOT crews to make progress on large-scale construction projects in Salt Lake and Utah counties.
In Taylorsville, Bangerter Highway will close in both directions at 6200 South at 11:00 pm.
UDOT crews are removing a pedestrian bridge over the highway as part of the Bangerter Three Interchanges Project. This entails the construction of three new freeway-style interchanges on Bangerter Highway at 6200 South, 10400 South and 12600 South, per a news release issued by UDOT.
The highway is expected to be reopened by 6:00 am Saturday.
At 10:30 pm Saturday, UDOT will close southbound I-15 in Orem at Center Street as crews place beams for the new Utah Valley University pedestrian bridge.
The release says the southbound lanes should be reopened again by 10:00 am. During this time, traffic will be detoured off of I-15 at Center Street and then back onto the freeway via Geneva Road and University Parkway.
As of Saturday at 10:00 pm, crews will reduce southbound I-15 to three lanes in Lehi between 2100 North and Main Street.
UDOT says drivers should be prepared for minor delays and weekend traffic that is “heavier than normal.”
UDOT crews are working to widen and reconstruct bridges in the area as part of the I-15 Technology Corridor Project. This is scheduled for completion in late 2020.
