(Jensen, UT) — Over half of Utah is now in an extreme drought. That designation by the U-S Drought Monitor comes after an unusually warm March melted what was left of an unusually small snowpack. Utah gets the vast majority of its water from snow, so the current data is a big deal. The storms that hit this week are not factored into the new designation, and it’s possible that more spring storms will take the edge off. The eastern edge of Uintah County is now experiencing an exceptional drought, which is the highest designation possible.
