Officials Warn Of Wildfire Risk

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Forestry officials say the risk of wildfires still exists across Utah despite recent rainfall. According to Uintah Cache Wasatch Forest officials, a tree can continue to smolder for a while after being hit by lightning, which can spark fires after a storm. Several lightning-strike related fires were reported in the area earlier this week, but thankfully were put out by rain before they could spread. Officials say campfires are an even bigger risk, with Forest Manager David Whittekiend saying there’s been a rash of wildfires started by campfires this summer.
