New Range Fire Information

PROVO CANYON, Utah-Tuesday, new information was released on the Range Fire.

Crews are planning to construct direct fireline along the fire’s western perimeter and mop up the southern flank along U.S. Highway 189.

Air resources will assist as is needed.

Firefighters are also assessing safe suppression tactics and contingency plans for the eastern and northern flanks.

Fire managers are again preparing for near critical fire weather conditions which are forecast for the fire area Wednesday.

An incoming storm front is expected to bring in gusty winds, low humidity and warmer temperatures.

The fire size is presently 3,450 acres and is 10 percent contained.

Structures are presently threatened at this time.

Squaw Peak Road is open again Tuesday. S.R. 92 remains closed from U.S. Highway 189 to the turnoff for S.R. 114.

Only local traffic will be allowed to use it.

All local parks on both sides of U.S. Highway 189 remain closed, including Canyon Glen Park, Canyon View Park, Mount Timpanogos Park, Nunns Park, Bridal Veil Falls/Park and the Upper Falls Picnic Area.

Trail closures include the Provo River Trail from the mouth of Provo Canyon to Vivian Park, the Dry Canyon Trailhead, Trail No. 049 (Dry Canyon Trail) and Trail No. 033 (Little Baldy/Great Western Trail).

220 personnel have been assigned to the area.
