(Salt Lake City, UT) — A newly proposed state bill may result in your energy costs going up. HB-1-9-1 would require Rocky Mountain Power to replace coal plants with a resource that produces at least the same amount of power and have “similar attributes” to coal power. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the Office of Consumer service says if the bill were to pass, the ratepayer would be the one paying the additional price. Current law requires utilities like Rocky Mountain to pursue the cheapest and safest option for power.
