Mosquito Season Is Impacted by Record Heat, High Water Levels

(Kaysville, UT) — Mosquitoes are likely to be an even more oppressive danger and a nuisance this summer due to the near-record heat and high water levels from the melting snowpack. Officials with the Davis Mosquito Abatement District are using technology to be ahead of the problem including a drone capable of carrying more than 100 pounds. The district is undertaking a tremendous amount of spraying as crews try to cover those natural breeding grounds. Last May was the third-busiest on record. Utah has experienced two years in a row as major water years and that means there are more wetlands where mosquitoes can breed.
