Mormon Crickets Make An Early Appearance In Utah

(Millard County, UT) — Mormon crickets are showing up early in Utah. Scientists with the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food have already spotted young crickets weeks ahead of schedule in some parts of the state, including Box Elder and Millard counties. They’re asking farmers to keep an eye out for the insect and to report sightings to the government so they can respond quickly if needed. According to USDA, uncontrolled infestations of mormon crickets can take away habitat and food for wildlife and force ranchers to purchase supplemental feed.
