Missing ex-Utah lawmaker found safe; stranded 2 nights

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former state legislator who had been missing in southern Utah since New Year’s eve has been found safe after spending two nights in his stranded car.
St. George police said 52-year-old Chad Bennion became stuck on an isolated road in a remote area outside of town after he left his home Saturday afternoon to go for a trail run.
A passing citizen spotted his Oldsmobile Bravada Monday morning.
Bennion told authorities he was in an area without cell service, but heard on the radio he was the target of a search, so he stayed with his vehicle with food and supplies he’d brought along in case of an emergency.
Bennion served in the legislature as a representative from Murray from 1999-2005. He was elected chairman of the Salt Lake County Republican Party in 2013.
