(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Republican Party is keeping Celeste Maloy as its nominee for the upcoming special election in the Second Congressional District. The chair of the party said yesterday that he plans to submit Maloy’s name to state election officials soon. Maloy’s win at the recent state party convention has been the focus of some criticism, with party members challenging her residency and failure to vote in previous elections. Lieutenant Governor Diedre Henderson says Maloy meets the requirements to be the Republican nominee and that her office has received no formal complaints.
