LDS Church Announces Groundbreaking Date for Rio De Janeiro Temple

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP)-Per an official report released by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Thursday, the organization will break ground for a new temple in South America later this year.

The Salt Lake City-based faith reports that on March 4, it will break ground for its new temple in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The ceremony will occur with Church leaders conducting the event along with guests from the community.

Presently, the LDS Church operates 155 temples throughout the world and upon its completion, it will be the eighth in operation in Brazil.

The temple will be located in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood in the west zone of Rio De Janeiro.
