SALT LAKE CITY-In news released Wednesday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partnered with Christkindlmarket SLC of Salt Lake City and Lehi-based Navajo Strong to sponsor the St. Martin’s Project.
This project is a community service initiative that collected nearly 800 covid-19 kits and 700 educational backpacks to donate to families on Navajo Nation land.
Numerous volunteers gathered at This is the Place State Park in Salt Lake City to help pack and load the donated items.
Community members in Salt Lake City, Bountiful and Draper were able to donate clothes, food and essential resources to Navajo Nation.
The plans are to pack and and store the items at a warehouse in Blanding, Utah where they will be organized, cleaned and sanitized before distribution.
Donated items include new backpacks, crayons, binders, notebooks, toilet paper, canned food and soap.
