(Salt Lake City, UT) — Monsoon season has begun late in Utah this year, bringing stormy weather to the state. The monsoonal weather pattern is a frequent summer occurrence, as moisture from Mexico makes its way up into Utah and the Southwestern United States. The surge of moisture brings in more frequent rounds of rain and thunderstorms to the region. While Utah’s monsoon season usually begins in June, meteorologists say the current El Nino weather pattern has caused a delayed start. This year’s rainy season is forecast to be brief, predicted to last a week or less.
