Judge Pauses Utah’s Social Media Law

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A federal judge has put Utah’s social media law for kids on hold. The judge yesterday sided with a group of tech companies who are challenging Utah’s law that would require social media sites to set the maximum number of defaults for social media accounts for children. The companies would also have to verify children’s ages, and make sure that no one else could see the accounts of Utah’s children. The new law is supposed to go into effect on October 1st. The tech groups say not only is the law almost impossible to manage, but they say it violates the First Amendment. The judge in the case said the tech groups made a ‘persuasive argument.’
