(Salt Lake City, UT) — A judge is allowing Utah Republicans to appeal her ruling on redistricting to the Utah Supreme Court. Judge Diana Gibson says GOP lawmakers missed a deadline to file their case, but she’s letting it advance to the high court anyway. That’s because the case will decide how to draw Utah’s congressional boundaries. Earlier this year, Judge Gibson ruled that Republicans broke the law by creating a map that gave the GOP an advantage in every congressional race. She redrew the map so there is a seat that represents Salt Lake County. That’s caused Republicans to sue.
