Higher Wildfire Risk Despite Winter’s Record Snowpack

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah officials are worried about the wildfire season thanks to grass growth from record snowpack. Governor Spencer Cox joined other state officials yesterday to encourage residents to use “Fire Sense” when spending time outdoors this year. They say tall grasses that spurt as a result of the increased ground runoff can become fuel for wildfires when precipitation lessens up — and the state dries out.
