Gov. Herbert Keeps Utah At Yellow, Low-Risk COVID-19 Level

SALT LAKE CITY-Friday, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert confirmed the Beehive State will stay at the yellow, low-risk level for COVID-19.

The state’s previous health order, which went into effect May 14, was set to expire Friday. This current health order will remain in effect until June 12.

Salt Lake City and Bluff and Mexican Hat (each of which are in San Juan County near the Navajo Nation) currently are at orange, or moderate risk.

Herbert’s statement on the matter confirms the following:

“Common sense requires keeping our current health risk guidance in place. We all want to return to more normal patterns of life as soon as possible, but we also do not want to take a step back in our progress against this disease and our reactivation of the economy.

A marked increase in disease incidence and in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 give us pause. We will continue to analyze data trends with an eye toward balancing overall health risks and protecting high-risk populations.

Utah’s Yellow Phase guidance emphasizes taking common sense precautions so that we can safely resume regular social and economic pursuits. Under Yellow risk status, there are no economic activities that are categorically prohibited if common sense precautions are in place.

We have shown that we can make progress to slow the spread of coronavirus even while reactivating our economy. Please practice social distancing and good hygiene,” the statement continues.

He also exhorts Utahns to wear “face coverings.”
