Father, Retired Deputy, Save The Life of a Boy Who Nearly Drowns In Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Utah-Last Friday, a 13-year-old boy’s life was saved by quick thinking from a parent and a retired deputy.

Shortly before 5:00 pm, a 911 call was received, reporting that a juvenile had been pulled from a pool unconscious and not breathing in the Santa Clara Heights area.

This was per a report to the St. George News from Santa Clara-Ivins Police Sergeant Reed Briggs.

Emergency personnel were then dispatched while a newly-retired Washington County Sheriff’s deputy and neighbor to the family ran next door following a commotion and cries for help coming from the pool area.

Briggs confirmed both parents were outside near the pool when the incident occurred while their son, who has special needs, was diving underwater for rings.

When the boy “just didn’t come back up,” the deputy found him unresponsive and commenced CPR on the youth.

Santa Clara-Ivins Police Sergeant Nick Hallman then arrived on the scene and joined in the effort to restore the youth’s breathing by removing water expelled during the resuscitation process.
