As the evening progresses, avalanches have caused closures on U.S. Highway 189. As KUTV 2 News of Salt Lake City’s Heidi Hatch confirmed, a 30-foot deep avalanche in Provo Canyon was responsible. Presently, U.S. Highway 189 at milepost 12 (three miles northeast of Provo) is closed for avalanche control work/cleanup. Estimates state that this closure may last for at least six hours.
Check the UDOT Traffic app for all official estimated clearance times.

This evening, UDOT reminded drivers of intermittent road closures along U.S. Highway 189.
This is to complete avalanche control work between Canyon Glen Park and Vivian Park.
UDOT, per its Twitter account, confirmed each of these closures could cause up to 20 minute delays for drivers.
Remember to plan accordingly as you make your driving preparations throughout the night.
